Hello my name is...
Rachel (29). I hold a number of personal and professional titles, paid in full with life experience. I am a daughter, granddaughter, niece, sister, girlfriend, magical "Aunticorn," and frightful "Auntisauraus." I come from a blended family, with an older half-sister, a younger half-brother, two full siblings, and two step-brothers. The running joke remains, "80's, 90's, 2000's, and Today!" I have a billion-and-one nieces and nephews, ranging from near adults to "coming soon." In a previous life, I served in the United States Air Force as an Emergency Manager (3E971) and ultimately earned a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science and Masters in Emergency Management. By day, I hide in plain sight as a Police Officer, where I make it my mission to make the world a better place. I am currently assigned as a Detective to child abuse and sexual assault investigations, and as such has learned the value in laying the foundation for our children.
The Greedy Weed is inspired collectively by my and other's personal experiences along with the great work I get to do everyday, working with survivors of acute and chronic trauma. The Greedy Weed, fully illustrated by me, marks my second formally published work, along side Big Bad. The Greedy Weed and Big Bad, like all my projected works, aim to provide perspective to existing notions and understandings about people and the world we share. The Greedy Weed uniquely aims to address early identification of toxic and dangerous people and most importantly the value in standing up for oneself. I felt it was important to share sooner rather than later, so that we might save the children in our lives from the dangers we still struggle to protect ourselves against. I am eager to see what stimulating conversation and discussion can be drawn from this thoughtful rhyme. Thanks for reading and I hope it makes a difference in your life.
My in-home editor, Andrew (30), while not verbose, is inarguably thoughtful, and continues to provide thought provoking inspiration and editing for the stories that I, Rachel, feel compelled to share.
