Morell, former deputy director and acting director of the CIA, writes of his 30-plus years of service in the U.S. intelligence community. He describes his youth and early years of service in the agency, but most of this memoir centers on the events from before 9/11 through the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations. Quite a bit of this work is spent defending himself regarding the Benghazi attacks of September 11, 2012. Robert Fass offers a very expressive and disciplined reading of this text. He is polished and nuanced in delivery and never seems to mispronounce a word or skip a beat. VERDICT While this title is not a necessary purchase, libraries whose clientele have an interest in foreign affairs and current events may wish to consider.—Michael T.
