Overview

Narwhals have lived beneath the ice in the Arctic Ocean for centuries. But as global temperatures rise, less and less sea ice is covering those waters each year. And humans are taking advantage of the clearer water, searching and drilling for oil and hauling cargo. Like other whales, narwhals use echolocation to navigate. So the noisy human activities invading their home are a BIG problem. Author Sandra Markle dives into the icy world of narwhals and explores how scientists are working to protect this unique species.
