About the Author

About The Author
George MacDonald, a Scottish novelist, started off as a clergyman but always considered himself a poet. His unorthodox views resulted in a short career in the pulpit, after which he turned to writing. He initially attracted notice for poetry and adult fantasy, but later turned to realistic novels. Over the next thirty years he wrote some fifty books, including, in addition to the novels, more poetry, short stories, fantasy, sermons, essays, and a full-length study of Hamlet.
