Overview

"You can take the girl out of Brooklyn, but you can't take Brooklyn out of the girl."
Reading Martha Reingold's second collection of stories, essays and poems, the Girl out of Brooklyn reawakens the joy of growing up in the "Borough of Churches" and the sadness of leaving it behind.
Brooklyn has the beach and the boardwalk and the majestic Brooklyn Bridge. It has Prospect Park and Grand Army Plaza. Sheepshead Bay and Manhattan Beach. Coney Island and Nathan's famous frankfurters. Martha cherishes the memory of Brooklyn Heights and its iconic view of Manhattan, the three bridges that span the East River, the Statue of Liberty, and the everchanging New York skyline. She recalls her early education in the story, "Christmas at PS 152" and in her pean to her high school days in the essay "Oh Midwood, Midwood..."
Pick up this little gem and immerse yourself in this book. It will touch your heart, your soul, and your mind with its wonderful sense of nostalgia that is certain to remind you of earlier times.

About the Author

Martha Reingold was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1935. She stayed close to home where she walked to public school, high school, and Brooklyn College. She graduated college in 1956 and entered the fledgling computer industry. It suited her just fine. She was a career woman before the term “women’s lib” was ever invented. She retired in 2015 after 60 active years of software design and implementation.

Just before she retired, Martha began to write. She started with some autobiographical work but soon started writing all manner of short pieces. Her first book, Jewish Wry and Other Slices of Life was published in 2015. It is a collection of stories, essays, and poems that reflect her Brooklyn Jewish past.
