Overview

In August 2005, Ellyn Sanna and photographer Ben Stewart traveled to Thailand to hear the stories and photograph the faces of people who were still putting their lives back together after the December 2004 tsunami. When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, the people of Thailand immediately understood in a deeply personal way the effect the devastation would have on so many Americans. The Thai people wanted to reach out and help. The Gift of Hope was born out of this desire to assist with both relief efforts. To complete the book, Ellyn and Ben also visited the devastated regions of Louisiana, documenting the stories of hurricane survivors. The book is filled with color photography and vivid stories of inspiration and courage. One-third of the proceeds directly supports Habitat for Humanity International's "Operation Home Delivery" (2005 hurricane relief fund), and the Give2Asia/Asia Foundation tsunami relief fund.

What People are Saying About This

Alaina Love

"The lump in my throat began with the first two pages. The warmth in my heart grew with each new chapter. Sannas prose eloquently depicts the kind and loving nature of the Thai people and their grace and courage in the face of disaster. They, along with the Katrina survivors in America have taught the world how to move through tragedy with determination, hope, and love."
