Overview

"The Future & Other Poems" is an original collection of Michael Wais, Jr.'s poetry. It delves into the thoughts and imagery that one might express when delving entirely into one's own inner-life. Ending on a high note, this brief collection (that is extremely accessible in length) explains in direct and non-elevated terms the thoughts of a human being forced to explode his thoughts of alienation and connection onto paper.

About the Author

Michael Wais, Jr. studied literature independently for several years. He taught himself to read before entering kindergarten. When he was 7 years old and in the first grade he became a fan of Stephen King after reading "Cujo" at his local library. His other two literary mentors included Ray Bradbury (for whom he became a fan after reading "Fahrenheit 451" in the 6th grade) and William S. Burroughs (who he started reading at about the age of 15). William S. Burroughs's "Naked Lunch" made Michael Wais, Jr. decide he certainly wanted a career in writing, due to how raw and unflinching the novel was. Later he became more influenced by other Beat writers (especially since his grandfather's first cousin briefly eloped with Jack Kerouac, Beat writer of the novel "On The Road").

Michael Wais, Jr. took a Fiction Writing I class at NYU-SCPS online. Outside of that New York University SCPS course, he took another Fiction Writing I class from the online courses at Gotham Writers' Workshop. Not much later he underwent a Gotham Writer's Workshop/New York Times Knowledge Network joint online class that was under the instruction of a New York Times editor. Afterwards he attended "Creative Writing" classes from Professor Julie Cardenas at Grossmont College, an instructor recognized for having taught the influential punk-rock journalist Lester Bangs.
