About the Author

J. Harris Anderson attended the University of Virginia and George Mason University, where he earned BS and MBA degrees. A member of Mensa, his career as a marketing specialist took him through the banking, hospitality, and construction industries. He has served as a consultant to several organizations and as Senior Writer for a firm specializing in training programs and corporate communications.

As a committee member for the Masters of Foxhounds Association’s Centennial Celebration, Anderson assisted with editing the commemorative book A Centennial View. He also created the accompanying DVD, A Centennial Run, an archival collection of information, histories, photos, and videos from every recognized foxhunting club in North America – 165 of them.

He is currently the managing editor of In & Around Horse Country, a national publication covering foxhunting, steeplechasing, polo, and other horse sports.

A fascination for all things equine revealed itself at an early age. Born in Washington, DC, and raised in Arlington, Virginia, he spent many Sunday mornings in the 1950s and early ’60s riding through Rock Creek Park. In his teens he decided to live out his dream to be a cowboy and headed west…to Fairfax County. This was when much of Northern Virginia was still open country and The Fairfax Hunt followed hounds from Wolf Trap to Great Falls. College, career, and other obligations interrupted his equestrian pursuits for a time, but he eventually found his way back into the saddle.

An avid foxhunter, he has served as a field leader, whipper-in, and racecourse outrider.

He lives on a Virginia horse farm from which he regularly rides with the local hunt.
