The Flip Side: 64 Point-of-View Monologs for Teens
Short, breezy, provocative-these monologs are superb for acting exercises, speech and drama contests or auditions. Each monolog characterization focuses on a topic of interest to middle school and high school teens. The book is divided into three sections: "Ladies...," "And Gentlemen..." and "All Together Now!" Different than other monolog books, within each section the monologs are paired to permit a presentation of a different opinion of the same topic. The two-minute length of most of these monologs makes memorization easy. The material is also suitable for classroom or performance activities. Sample title pairs include "Mirror, Mirror/Princess Pizzaface," "Couch Potato; Fat Kid," and "I Love Mrs. Smith/Mrs. Spit."

About the Author

Heather Hendersoncaught the theater bug at an early age but never got to say a line on-stage until she was a senior in high school. She performed in many ballets (where you're not allowed to talk) and then, in her first high school production, Heather was cast as a deaf/mute character! It was not untilWest Side Storythat she was able to utter the very memorable line, "Ooh, oobley, ooh" as Riff's girlfriend, Velma. After high school, Heather attended Florida State University (and again, she didn't get to say any lines inThe Merry Widow) where she decided to become a teacher. Teachers get to say lots of lines! Following graduation, Heather taught drama for four years at Galaxy Middle School in Deltona, Florida, teaching students to say all the lines she was never able to. She currently teaches seventh grade Language Arts at Galaxy.
