Overview

From George Washington to William McKinley, this book offers unique and little known stories about the presidents and their wives, with descriptions of crucial events happening during their terms of office. This is a good general history of the United States, as well as an illustrated family, school, and library reference. Several portraits, as well as campaign buttons, famous quotes, and fascinating facts help readers get to know each leader. Discover which president ordered a former Vice President arrested and tried for treason, who was the only unmarried president, and which president took pride in being known as a stubborn jackass. The book includes information about the social history of the times to help you understand what your ancestors were thinking and feeling.

About the Author

Carolyn B. Leonard is a card-carrying member of historical societies in several states and is often called to speak and teach classes on her favorite subjects of genealogy, history, travel, and writing. She has always been keenly interested in politics since she helped hand out campaign material at the age of ten. She enjoys traveling with her retired engineer husband, Jon Heavener, when they can part from their pampered mixed-breed pup Ginger. Although never a candidate herself, she educates herself each election on every politician to decide the right choice. "My grandmother had to go through so much to get the right to vote, I promised her I would honor that." She is an active member of League of Women Voters, and has experience working on legislative bills in the state capitol senate.
An active genealogist of long standing, she was named a KY Colonel by the Governor, and honored by the Sons of American Revolution for locating and marking graves of Revolutionary Patriots. Leonard still manages the farm at Buffalo, OK, where she grew up and she once rode a camel on a dare in Jerusalem.
