I suspect you have been hearing more about holiness in the last couple of years than you have ever heard before. By this I do not mean that Christians have ever dropped the biblical word “holiness” from their vocabulary. However, the tendency has been to emphasize the holiness of God or, when applying holiness to ourselves, to pass it off rather lightly as something that would be nice to have a bit more of, but not to worry much about.
Things are changing—rapidly. The Holy Spirit has started speaking to the churches about holiness with an intensity not previously seen, at least in our generation. The subject is being highlighted in messages, in conferences, in articles, in books, in classrooms across regional and denominational lines. There is no question that God intends to raise the whole Body of Christ to new levels of purity, righteousness and obedience to His complete will.
Sergio Scataglini has emerged as one of God’s foremost leaders in this expanding season of holiness. I could not be more delighted and at the same time amazed. Sergio is my student—and more. He and his wife, Kathleen, were members of the Sunday School class that I taught for many years. I feel like a father who didn’t really know how his son would turn out. Then suddenly Sergio became an internationally recognized leader. Why? Because he allowed God to visit him with an awesome experience of personal holiness. He received God’s supernatural anointing to communicate the message of holiness to the rest of the Body of Christ.
Why didn’t God choose someone like Sergio Scataglini to present this message to us years ago? I’m not surprised that God would select someone who had been touched by the Argentine revival. In fact, the major event of the early days of the Argentine revival took place in the church that Sergio now pastors in La Plata. At that time, his father and my friend, Alberto Scataglini, pastored the church in which Carlos Annacondia began to become a household name—first in Argentina, then throughout the world. But the Argentine revival was in its fifteenth year when God brought the message of holiness to the forefront through Sergio.
By way of answering my own question, my hypothesis would be that God wanted to be sure that a significant segment of the Body of Christ had corporately received the power of the Holy Spirit, that they were healing the sick and casting out demons, that large numbers of unsaved people were becoming disciples of Jesus Christ, that God’s people understood the nature of the spiritual battle for extending the Kingdom and that they were on the right track. To this end, He selected and worked through such incredible leaders as Omar Cabrera, Carlos Annacondia, Eduardo Lorenzo, Claudio Freidzon, Edgardo Silvoso, Pablo Deiros, Pablo Bottari and others. Each one of them had a significant role to play in fanning the flames of revival in Argentina.
Now they all have powerful international ministries, but none of them has become known particularly for communicating the call of God to radical personal holiness.
Perhaps if holiness had become a primary theme of the Revival in earlier days, it could have been seen as an end in itself. History has already recorded many instances of enthusiasm for holiness in the lives of believers ultimately becoming ingrown and self-serving and abandoning evangelization of the lost. This is the last thing that Argentina or the rest of the world needs.

God has been raising up His army worldwide for the most explosive advance in all of history against the strongholds of the prince of the power of the air. This is why the Body of Christ needs to move to a new level, and that level is a total sell-out to personal holiness. I agree with Sergio that God’s standard is not 98%, but nothing less than 100%.
The book you hold in your hands is a divinely empowered instrument to help take you to that level. You may not be thrust there through a single dramatic life-changing experience like the one that “floored” Sergio, but if you allow God the freedom to work in your life the way He desires, you definitely can attain that mark because it is God’s will that you do.
