Overview

Eastern Canada, 1903. Living in the beautiful province of Ontario, Mabel Fairchild is a country girl both at heart and in circumstance, whose ambition is to become a published author. For most young women, life in the small village of Annafield is boring and uneventful, but for Mabel, country life is the epitome of happiness. The nature and the beauty around her define her outlook on life, filling her with endless amounts of inspiration for her stories.

Mabel's life takes a turn, however, as she enters her final year of schooling. From her relationship with her best friend Peter Golightly becoming more complicated to Mabel taking the first step towards her independence, the life of the Fairchild house is forever altered in dramatic, humorous and beautiful ways throughout the course of the novel.

With a mixture of light-hearted banter and wholesome romance, The Fields by my House is a love letter to a bygone era, reflecting the philosophy that the simple things in life are what make it special.
