The United States Constitution is under attack right now. Progressives of all sorts throughout the land want to rend the Constitution to shreds and rewrite it in their own image. Forgotten, overlooked or ignored are the principles that founded this greatest of all nations; the very principles that served as the bedrock that brought the United States from a disorganized thirteen small colonies to the pinnacle of magnificence. These are the principles that led the out-manned, out-gunned and out-trained patriots to rise up in defiance to the premier military power in the world. These principles led the rag-tag army to follow Washington, to suffer Valley Forge, and finally to success at the Battle of Yorktown on the 19th of October, 1781
Unknown to today’s generation and almost forgotten by all are the endeavors that led to the creation of the Constitution that was to become the law of the land. Brave men, risking their estates, their positions and even their very lives met, debated, argued and crafted the most important document in the civilized world, The Constitution for the United States of America.
Three of the framers of the Constitution—John Jay, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton—were the authors of a series of newspaper articles known as The Federalists, a series of articles published in the New York newspaper and spread throughout the colonies; eighty-five well-written, powerful articles that clearly defined the intent and purpose of those who created the Constitution, and informed the public not only of the content but also the reasoning behind each particle of the Constitution. The articles delineated the differences between the United States Constitution and all that had gone before and had failed. The articles cut through the rhetoric, the false charges, the unjust accusations and the deliberate falsehoods that attempted to persuade the citizenry to reject the Constitution. The articles also laid out a path for success, a path that would allow maximum personal freedom and minimum government disruption.
Revisit now those years of yesterday, years where we can learn first-hand of the justification and the cause of the Constitution and moments that enable us to remember that this is indeed the greatest nation ever to exist and that the Constitution, as written, is the greatest single document conceived by men of honor to provide and protect personal freedom, justice and equality for all mankind.
