Journey King is an expert at managing the family business. But when her father returns to Houston hell-bent on making a play for the company, Journey will do anything to stop him, even if that means going to Frank Evans for help. Frank deals in information, the dirtier the better. Rugged and rock solid, he's by far her best ally -- and also the most dangerous.

Frank knows better than to get tangled up with the Kings. But something about Journey's rare vulnerability drags him deep into enemy territory...and into her darkest past. Pretending to be her boyfriend may be necessary for their plan to work, but Frank soon finds helping Journey is much more than just another job -- and he'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe.

FEBRUARY 2019 - AudioFile

Narrator Brooke Hayden gives voice to the second installment of the Kings series. The King siblings’ world is turned upside down when their abusive father comes back to Houston to facilitate a hostile takeover of their company. Eldest sister Journey hopes, with business rival Frank Evans’s assistance, to keep her father from destroying their family. Hayden’s odd pronunciations and unusual pacing may distract the listener from the story’s intrigue and romance. However, her raspy timbre and Southern drawl help to set the Texas location, and she animates the steamy exchanges between Frank and Journey. A.L.S.M. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine

Publishers Weekly

11/19/2018
In the tense second King contemporary romantic thriller, Robert threatens the peace brokered in The Last King by plunging the King siblings into danger. Journey King’s role in Kingdom Corp keeps her centered. When her sadistic father, Elliot, returns from a long absence, intent on seizing control of the company by terrorizing his children, a shaken Journey turns to Frank Evans, a powerful frenemy, for help. Frank desires Journey but doesn’t trust the Kings. However, when an emotionally battered Journey asks him to dig up Elliot’s secrets to protect her family, Frank agrees to wade in. It quickly becomes apparent that the danger Elliot poses is very real. Robert uses the gripping passion between Frank and Journey to force them to confront their fears and admit they need each other. There’s nothing typical about this damsel/knight romance, and watching Journey learn to trust herself and Frank choose to let down his guard when each has so much at stake is deeply satisfying. This suspenseful installment stands alone, but new readers will definitely want to read the first book in the series. Agent: Laura Bradford, Bradford Literary. (Feb.)
