Overview

The Fateful Pendant is a historical novel, fiction that takes place
at the end of the 18th century in France.

When the mother of the family passed away after a long, serious illness, the widowed husband, Osmond, the father of two sons, decided to relocate closer to his sister. The older son, Wallace, starts working alongside his father for a shipbuilder, Mr. Trottier. The younger son, Raul, is helping his aunt, Resly, sell the produce from her farm.
One day, after a lot of rain, when numerous puddles are scattered on the ground with the water that the drenched soil wasn't able to soak up yet, Trottier's daughter, Nathalie, is intentionally splattered with this dirty water as she walks through the marketplace together with her older sister Annie. One of the ragged rascals jumps into a puddle right next to her because he hates this dolled-up girl who has everything she's ever wanted, although he doesn't know her very well.
Raul, whose mother always asked him to treat people nicely while still alive, immediately hurries over to assist the girl and cleans off her muddied face, clothes, and shoes; then, he carries the basket with her purchases to the manor where she lives.
As time goes by, Nathalie becomes friends with the poor Raul, and this friendship lasts long years; however, this is a thorn in the side of Gerard, who doesn't like seeing his sister in the company of this poor boy. Raul has started working at the shipyard of Mr. Trottier as well - thanks to Nathalie, who had put in a good word for him with her father - the malicious Gerard starts to weave a net of intrigues and achieves his ends...
