Overview

This play is an adaptation of the classic comedy by Carlo Goldoni, which was written in Italy in the 18th Century. Nina is a beautiful peasant girl living in a small village in Italy. She is in love with Crispino, a shoemaker, who vies for her love with his rival Coronato, an innkeeper. Coronato is favored by Nina's brother Moracchio, who has influence regarding who Nina can marry. To add more romantic intrigue, two gentlemen are competing to win the love of Candida, the sophisticated daughter of a wealthy lady in town. When a pretty fan intended as a gift for Candida is lost, confusion follows as many interested parties pursue it.
