About the Author

Thomas A. Shannon is Professor Emeritus of Religion and Social Ethics in the Department of Humanities and Arts at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA. For several years he was an adjunct Professor of Moral Theology at Weston Jesuit School of Theology, Cambridge, MA. While at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, he was Paris Fletcher Distinguished Professor of the Humanities from 1994-96. In 1996, he was awarded the Doctor of Humane Letters, Causa honoris from Quincy University, Quincy, IL. In the 2006 spring semester, he was the Goodwin-Philpott Eminent Scholar in the Department of Philosophy at Auburn University. From January 2007 to December 2007, Professor Shannon was the Paul E. McKeever Chair of Moral Theology in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at St. John’s University, Queens, NY. In 2009, Professor Shannon was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Board of Plastic Surgeons. He is a member of the Ethics committee of Geisinger Hospital in Danville, PA. Professor Shannon is the author or co-author or editor of over 35 books and 50 articles in bioethics and social justice.
