Overview

Haven Moore has always lived in the town of Snope City, Tennessee. But for as long as she can remember, Haven has experienced visions of a past life as a girl named Constance, whose love for a boy called Ethan ended in fiery tragedy.

One day, the sight of notorious playboy Iain Morrow on television brings Haven to her knees. Haven flees to New York City to find Iain and there, she is swept up in an epic love affair that feels both deeply fated and terribly dangerous. Is Iain her beloved Ethan? Or is he her murderer from a past life? Haven asks the members of the powerful and mysterious Ouroboros Society to help her unlock the mysteries of reincarnation and discover the secrets hidden in her past lives, and loves, before all is lost and the cycle begins again. But what is the Ouroboros Society? And how can Haven know whom to trust?

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Miller (the Kiki Strike books) delivers a smart and sinister tale of romance and destiny that should spawn plenty of imitators. Haven Moore has spent her entire life in the small Tennessee town of Snope City, kept under tight watch by her religious grandmother and the town's priest. She's generally able to resist and control her visions of a past life with a man named Ethan, but when she sees a picture of Iain Morrow, a handsome New York playboy, she starts to suspect they share a bond that could date back centuries. She runs away to New York, where she finds not only Iain, but the Ouroboros Society, a mysterious group dedicated to helping people discover their former lives. Even as feelings for her newfound (or rediscovered) lover awaken in her, she realizes that both Iain and the society are keeping secrets from her. Her investigations take her further into the society and threaten her life. Miller's writing elevates the supernatural romance well beyond typical fare, and Haven's mix of naïveté and determination makes her a solid, credible heroine. Ages 12-up. (Aug.)

NOVEMBER 2010 - AudioFile

Teen fans of paranormal romance will be captivated by this fast-paced adventure, which takes listeners from Tennessee to New York to Europe. Narrator Emma Galvin switches easily from sweet to menacing, male to female, Southern drawl to clipped Manhattan twang. Afflicted with visions for as long as she can remember, Haven Moore stands out in all the wrong ways in Snope City, Tennessee. When she “recognizes” celebrity heartthrob Iain Morrow as the soul mate of her past life, her flight to New York seems inevitable. Galvin keeps the pace from flagging through some convoluted twists and turns. As longing and passion become riddled with doubt and unease, Galvin’s performance runs the gamut from humorous to intense. D.G. © AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine
