The Ephrata Effect examines the theologies and practices of two men with widely divergent views of Anabaptism and Pietism. Alexander Mack's vision gave birth to the Brethren movement. Conrad Beissel, once a follower of Mack, led a group of dissenters to form the Ephrata Community. Even with their differences, they shared much in common.

George Douglas Gehr is a retired Pastor in the Church of the Brethren. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Ephrata Cloister Associates and is a tour guide at the Historic Ephrata Cloister.
