About the Author

When I was in graduate school, the youth of America were erupting into what may be called America’s cultural revolution. Ideas as to what was important in life and attitudes towards life in general were beginning to change.
I began to question the reasons for existence. It was becoming apparent to me that most people did not understand this. Even though people did not know what they were talking about it did not stop them from believing that they had answers. They were giving me answers to questions according to their own level of understanding. In essence, they were doing the best they could, but this was not satisfactory to me.
I began on a course to find real answers to my questions. Questions like, why am I here? What is the purpose of my creation? What is my relationship to my Creator? What is our true relationship with the rest of mankind? How are we supposed to act? What is my destiny? I was looking for the truth based in reality, not based on fictitious imaginations of the people I had been talking to. I began to read and read, and ran across a phrase that I prayed would apply to me, “When you are ready for a teacher, a teacher will appear for you.”
In March of 1972 I was living near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and got word that a teacher had somehow landed there. He was a small, dark-complexioned man from Sri Lanka. When I first stepped into his presence I knew something was different. I could not put it into words, but I knew I was now in front of someone who was based in reality. I knew I had met my teacher. I was thirsty for what he had to offer.
This relationship lasted fourteen years until my teacher passed from this world in December of 1986. During this time he taught me what a person needs to do to become a true human being. He became the mirror so that I could see what I was supposed to become. His name was Muhammad Raheem Bawa Muhaiyaddeen. He was love personified, he was mercy personified, he was compassion personified.
God in His mercy continues to send those with the knowledge of God into this world to teach others about their Creator and how to become true human beings and enter reality. Our birthright is to be elevated from lower consciousness to elevated consciousness or wisdom, so that we can know our Lord and know reality.
