The Diary of a Woman Scorned
'I need to remake myself. How do I do that? By making lots of little
changes in my life or by doing something big? Something totally out of
character. Something there is no way back from...'
Middle-aged artist Meg Claridge is devastated when her barrister husband
David suddenly leaves her for a younger and pregnant woman. Childless
Meg is repeatedly told that divorce is a wonderful opportunity to start
over but her diary records her struggle to cope with living alone.
When she tries to get a job to support herself, Meg learns that her
old-fashioned skills are no longer valued in the workplace. Her family
assumes that Meg will become a full-time carer for her elderly mother, a
prospect she dreads.
Meg seeks inspiration in the life-stories of the women who attend her
painting classes but is too angry to imitate their quiet courage.
Instead Meg finds herself identifying with the defendant in David's
current case: a house-husband accused of murdering his unfaithful wife.
Sick of being an obsolete woman, Meg yearns to do something
extraordinary. As her life seems to spin out of control, Meg discovers
what kind of person she really is.
