LUAY HAMZA ABBAS

is a novelist and short story writer from the port city of Basra in southern Iraq. His recent publications include City of Pictures (novel), Writing: To Rescue Language from Drowning, and Closing His Eyes (short stories). The latter collection won the NEA Translation Grant. Abbas is also the winner of the Creative Short Story Award, Iraq.


RASHA ABBAS

is a Syrian short story writer based in Berlin. She is the author of two short story collections, Adam Hates the Television and The Invention of German Grammar.


WAJDI AL-AHDAL

is a contemporary Yemeni writer. “A Crime in Mataeem Street” was included in Beirut 39: New Writing from the Arab World, and “To Return by Foot” was published in Oranges in the Sun: Short Stories from the Arabian Gulf. A Donkey in the Choir was excerpted at wordswithoutborders.org, and he also wrote A Land Without Jasmine.


ESTABRAQ AHMAD

holds a law degree from Kuwait University and is a graduate of the University of Iowa International Writing Program. Her short story collections include The Darkness of Light, for which she won the Laila Al-Othman Prize; Throwing Winter High, for which she won a state encouragement award; The Things Standing in Room 9 ; and Give Me 9 Words. She is the producer of the radio show The Cultural Café.


FATIMA AL-MAZROUEI

is an Emirati writer of novels, short stories, poem, plays, and stories for children. She writes daily, weekly, and monthly for local and Arab newspapers and magazines. She has won many awards and prizes from various organizations. She works at the National Archives of the United Arab Emirates.


AHMED AL-MO ’AZZEN

is a Bahraini writer. His writings have appeared in local and regional press, and he has won a number of awards for his short stories, several of which have been adapted into short films and plays. In addition to such short story collections as From the Concrete Jungles and Man for Sale, he has published the novel Time of the Coming Ruin.


BASMA AL-NSOUR

is a Jordanian short story writer and attorney. She has a weekly column in al-Arabi al-Jadeed newspaper and is editor in chief of Tayki magazine, which focuses on women’s literature. She has published several short story collections. Her work can also be found in translation in Banipal and Snow in Amman: An Anthology
