Deep in the forest, far from the owls who hunt him, a royal chick named Hoole is slowly maturing in seclusion, raised by the gentle spotted owl Grank. From time to time, Hoole's mother visits him, but his guardians cloak her identity even from her young son; the same birds who killed Hrath are eager to kill his heir.
