This story explores one day and three lives in a city where love is hard to find, life is cheap, and death is all too familiar. About the Author

Yanick Lahens is a former literature professor at the École Normale Superieure, part of the University of Haiti, and the author of Dans la maison du père as well as books of essays on Haiti and other places. She is also the recipient of the Prix littéraire Richelieu de la Francophonie and the Prix Millepages. Alison Layland is a professional translator, a member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, an associate of the Welsh Academi, and the recipient of the Translators’ House Wales–Oxfam Cymru 2010 Translation Challenge.
