Overview

Chick Bowdrie could have ridden the outlaw trail, but the Texas Rangers recruited him because they didn't want to have to fight against him. Persuing the most wanted men in the Southwest he knew all too well the dusty trails, the bitter cattle feuds, the desperate killers and the quiet, weather-beaten, wind-blasted towns that could explode into action with the wrong word. He had sworn to carry out the law, but there were times when he had to apply justice with his fists and his guns. They called in the Rangers to handle the tough ones and there was never a Ranger tougher or smarter than Bowdrie. Follow Bowdrie's adventures in these six classic westerns by America's favorite storyteller, Louis L'Amour.

Editorial Reviews

JUN/JUL 08 - AudioFile

A capable narrator and cast of character actors bring these six minidramas convincingly to life. In each story Texas Ranger Chick Bowdrie rides into town and solves a mystery. He's a Western detective whose sharp eyes and ears help him unearth the truth that usually escapes others. (Bowdrie can "track a snake across a flat rock.") The acting and sound effects of these dramatized stories are uniformly good. Happily, the production includes the voices of actual women and children—no falsettos required. The level, quiet voice of the narrator who portrays Bowdrie is well suited to the Ranger's character. L'Amour fans will enjoy hearing the author introduce two stories, giving insight into his research and his genuine love of the Old West. J.C.G. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine
