About the Author

Mary Imlay Taylor is reported to have been born in 1878, and have died Aug. 28, 1938. Her first novel, “On the Red Staircase,” was published in 1896. If these dates are correct, Taylor was only 18. Regardless, she was a prolific writer, having had at least 25 novels published over her lifetime. Taylor often wrote as M. Imlay Taylor, perhaps because of the prejudice against female authors that existed into the mid-20th century.
