Overview

THE CLOSE SHAVES OF PAULINE PERIL was a four issue series published by Gold Key
beginning in June of 1970. THE CLOSE SHAVES OF PAULINE PERIL was created by writer
Del Connell and artist Jack Manning. THE CLOSE SHAVES OF PAULINE PERIL is a bizarrely
funny comic about newspaper reporter Pauline Peril. Pauline is gutsy, smart and is going
to take on the world of journalism by storm as long as she doesn't get killed by her
editor Snodgrass McViper. Snodgrass's plan is that if Pauline dies in the course of her
reporting, then he, Snodgrass McViper will inherit the newspaper, the Daily Noose from
Pauline's father and Daily Noose owner Porterhouse Peril. Pauline is occasionally saved
from certain death by local health food store owner, the vitamin popping Chester
Chesty.
THE CLOSE SHAVES OF PAULINE PERIL is a humorous title with a distinct 70's vibe. The series
feels like it should have been added to the GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE or Cool McCool shows.
THE CLOSE SHAVES OF PAULINE PERIL would be a perfect pitch for a cartoon series aimed for
an older audience as part of the line up for ADULT SWIM.
