Grace’s first published book was A Chautauqua Idyll. Published in 1887, Grace wrote the book in an effort to earn enough money to take the family to the Chautauqua Lake program in New York when her father’s health had forced them to move to Florida. It was the beginning of a long and productive writing career.

Really I would call it a Tale. A tale told not from a human perspective. Here everything has a voice--the trees, the birds, the fish, the flowers, the squirrels, the ocean and even the rocks. Yes, everything talks.
They are planning a great one day meeting---a CHAUTAUQUA..where the whole world might attend...just like the humans have their Chautauqua.
They spend a great deal of time figuring out what words mean...like literature, theology and philosophy. They find a few pages from an old dictionary that help them.
As the story goes the whole world will come to their meeting to 'glorify God' and a great deal of preparation was needed. They even invited the ocean to attend!
