About the Author

Professor Per Brodal has more than 40 years experience with neuroanatomical research and teaching (medical students and other health professions). Extensive experience with postgraduate teaching with the aim of applying basic neuroscience to clinical problems (in neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation, physiotherapy). Headed the development and implementation of an integrated, problem-based curriculum at the Oslo University Medical School.

Description: This is a fourth edition of a popular neuroscience/neuroanatomy book designed primarily as an introduction for students in various health fields. Purposely written at a beginner level, the fourth edition updates areas of neuroscience where the understanding of function has changed.
Purpose: The purpose is to present the "difficult" subject of neuroanatomy so that those approaching it for the first time can understand it. The book is designed to illustrate the primary concepts of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology as they pertain to various functions.
Audience: It is intended primarily for use by students of medicine, physical therapy, and psychology who need knowledge of the nervous system for basis for later clinical study and practice.
Features: The book presents neuroscience in an integrated manner, drawing on data from all fields of neurobiology, psychology, and clinical research. To present the nervous system, the book is divided into eight parts, each of which represents an aspect of the nervous system. The illustrations, images, and clinical correlations are right on target and are what differentiates this book from its competitors.
Assessment: This is an excellent resource that is a must have for all medical libraries that serve any students interested in the neurosciences.
