Overview

The Canadas is a story entwined with historical non-fiction. It is set during the War of 1812, in which the United States fights against the British and Canadians.

Devon Guelph is a young woman living in York (present day Toronto) with her mother. Her fiance serves in the Canadian Militia.

Emily Staunton is Devon's friend, and she lives in Washington. Her fiance serves in the American army. The women are close friends who have known each other since childhood. The story explores how the war impacts their lives and their friendship. These fictional characters are placed at some of the major events of the war, including the burning of the White House, and the Battle of Lundy's Lane - the bloodiest battle ever fought on Canadian soil.

Do they both survive the war? Can their friendship survive the war?

Read the story with separate fiction and non-fiction chapters in chronological order.
