Overview

The Sheriff's Office in South Florida is a big department run by an elected Sheriff with many specialized units that most deputies aspire to be in, Homicide, Crime Scene, Crimes against persons and property, Aviation, Gangs, SWAT, SWAT Negotiators, and many others. The headquarters building was in a seedy part of town. If you needed to go in, you had to go through a metal detector and then get scanned by a uniformed armed deputy. If you worked there, you just showed your badge and walked in. This was a large agency with many patrolling districts as well as contract cities that contracted for police and fire service.
