Overview

Noor is an anthropomorphic anglerfish who lives in the idyllic kingdom of Ellycium, where he leads a peaceful life gathering gemstones and worshipping king Quzah. Noor's life is pretty uninteresting except for the fact that his esca, the colorful orb floating above his head, is rainbow colored, unlike the rest of the anglerfish who have unicolored escas.

Noor's distinctive esca color, coupled with certain unexplained events and rituals in Ellycium, push him to question his own identity as well as the reality behind the kingdom's myths and mysterious king. His quest for truth causes division among the anglerfish and leads him on a journey to the legendary emerald mountain of Kaf where he uncovers some astonishing secrets about the true ruling cabal and about himself.

Inspired by Arabian mythology and Sufi beliefs, this story explores the mystery of the spiritual aspect of existence and the theme of uncontrolled technological progress.

About the Author

Youssef is a novelist who enjoys mixing quirky fictional plots with metaphysical questions about existence and consciousness. His love of writing stemmed from a combination of two factors: his love of fantasy and science fiction literature, and a lack of modern imaginative plots that challenged the familiar tropes. This drove Youssef to create his own stories.

His debut story "The Ancient Astronaut" is a mixture of philosophy, mythology, and sci-fi within an alternate history setting seen through the lenses of a supernatural entity.

Youssef's second novel "The Cabal in Ellycium" is a quirky beast fable in the vein of "Watership Down" and "Animal Farm", with an outlandish plot twist that doesn't get revealed until the end. He likes to describe it as the story of "The Matrix" movie but underwater and on acid.

Youssef hopes that his stories will lead readers to see the world through novel and hopefully more pleasant lenses.

English is Youssef's third language, so while he might not be the greatest wordsmith, expect very imaginative settings and intricately woven narratives.
