The Boy in Red Shorts is a self-reflection memoir of early life of Samy Tshileu. The journey begins from his birth in a small village of Kakona in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (D.R.C.) and ends with his arrival in the United States of America. The vast majority of stories within the book take place in numerous villages in the D.R. Congo, displaying obstacles and challenges dealt with while living in those environments. Despite difficulties and disadvantages Samy experienced while living in the Congo, the book also values positive self-esteem through demonstrating decision making, based on spiritual leading from God. The aim is to encourage individuals to never give up and to provide a new perspective to life. Furthermore, the book indicates that, with God, anything is possible.
