About the Author

Elizabeth Liechty has been working with children and for children's causes for nearly two decades. She became involved with children's bereavement camps through Hospice of the Chesapeake, when on a trip to South Africa in 2007, Elizabeth saw children grieving with no way for them to artistically express their sadness. So in 2015, she and a team of friends returned to South Africa with canvases and art supplies, which evolved into The Blue Elephant Canvas project. From this came The Blue Elephant, a book that offers children and families a way to discuss grief and loss, together. Elizabeth is currently co-chair of the Hospice of the Chesapeake's children's programs, Chesapeake Kids. She received the Legacy Award from Lincoln Financial Advisors for her humanitarian work. She has also been named one of Maryland's Top 100 Women for her leadership and volunteer efforts.
