Overview

Los Angeles, 1948. World War II may be over, but a new war is on the horizon. People are seeing monsters—not on Hollywood's silver screens but in real life—and the authorities are trying to keep it under wraps.

In Scott Pearson's novella The Big Dark, private detective Henry Shaw is in trouble with his former partner on the police force, Bob Neville. Shaw has a knack for run-ins with these horrific creatures, and he's making it hard for the police to keep their presence from the public. On top of that, he's got a new case that's heading in a disturbing direction.

Then, in William Leisner's novelette Meet John Doe, as Neville struggles to keep a lid on the monsters in the City of Angels, he's called in to assist federal agents on a case originating out of state. The problem is escalating, and Neville is beginning to wonder if some of these so-called monsters might not be so monstrous after all.

About the Author

William Leisner made his break into professional writing as a three-time winner of Pocket Books’ Star Trek: Strange New Worlds short story competition. He has since written several more tales in the Star Trek universe, plus a mystery novella, A Dimension of Death, which casts Gene Roddenberry and Rod Serling as murder investigators. He is currently (perpetually) at work on an original novel. A native of Rochester, New York, he currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He spends much of the time he should be doing “real” writing on Twitter. He may cause drowsiness or nausea. Ask your doctor if William Leisner is right for you.

Scott Pearson is a full-time freelance writer and editor. He has published across a number of genres, such as lit fic, humor, mystery, urban fantasy, horror, and science fiction, including three Star Trek stories and two Trek novellas. Scott lives in personable St. Paul, Minnesota, with his wife, Sandra, and their cat, Ripley. He and his daughter, Ella, cohost the podcast Generations Geek. Visit Scott online at scott-pearson.com and generationsgeek.com and follow him on his blog, Twitter, and Instagram. But don’t follow him too closely, that’s a little awkward.
