Overview

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) - one of the founding fathers of the United States, politician, diplomat, businessman, scientist, writer, journalist, publisher. He was the one who signed the US Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and the Treaty of Versailles of 1783, which formally ended the war of independence for the thirteen British colonies in North America from Britain. These are the three main documents on which the United States of America was built. Franklin was the 15th child in the family, and it seemed that his life was determined in advance. However, he managed to go from an assistant seller of tallow candles to a revered statesman. "Autobiography" Benjamin Franklin conceived as a story to his son about his family and, in fact, about his life path and experience. He was not going to publish it. However, later there was a desire to bring this story to the general public in order to explain to young people what a respectable life and real success are and how to achieve it. Autobiography is one of Franklin's largest and best-known works; was started by Franklin in 1771 in England and has been written over the years. As can be seen from the letters, Franklin intended to write "Autobiography" until the end of his life, but his social and political activities and the deteriorating health in recent years prevented the implementation of his plan. Therefore, the Autobiography ends with the announcement of Franklin's arrival in London in July 1757, where he was sent by the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly as Commissioner. The first part of "Autobiography" is written in the form of a letter to his son - William Franklin (future governor of New Jersey). The Autobiography was first published in French translation in 1791, after Franklin's death. "Autobiography" is a fascinating story of the life of a real person, written by him sincerely, without embellishment. Translated by Natalia Ivanova.
