Overview

An invasive evil is spreading through Caldera, a burgeoning desert metropolis that has been heralded as the gateway of the new millennium. However, as the malevolent shadow spreads across the land, the prospects for the 21st century begin to look bleak.Then three seemingly ordinary people are brought together: -Julian, an environmentalist, is sent to Caldera to investigate bizarre ecological occurrences.-Saney, a relocated psychiatrist, is trying to understand why the city's inhabitants are experiencing an unusually high frequency of mental disorders.-Finally, Chris, a runaway teenage boy, happens along and the three of them quickly discover that they are the only people who can defeat the true source of the region's evil, which may or may not be the Devil himself. When a man claiming to work for a mysterious global organization informs the trio that Satan has, in fact, chosen Caldera as the site of the final battle between good and evil, only one question remains...Is it too late for humanity?

About the Author

Paul Lonardo has had short fiction, book length fiction and non-fiction published. Most recently, he has co-authored a true crime book with Jeannie McDonough. Caught in the Act, a Courageous Family’s Fight to Save Their Daughter from a Serial Killer, released by Berkley Books in March, 2011. A previous true crime title that Paul co-authored was Thrill Killers, A True Story of Innocence and Murder Without Conscience (New Horizon Press, November 2007 / Berkley True Crime paperback, November 2008), a collaboration with the lead detective who investigated the double homicide chronicled in the book.
Paul also collaborated with Gina Russo on From The Ashes, Surviving the Station Nightclub Fire (Infinity, January 2010). The personal memoir and reflections of a survivor of the 2003 Rhode Island fire disaster that claimed the lives of 100 people is the subject of this book.
In Strike IX (Infinity, November 2009), Paul recounts the story of the 1999 Providence College baseball team, which learned that their sport would be eliminated at the end of the upcoming season in order for the school to comply with Title IX sex discrimination mandates.
Paul attended Columbia College, a film school in Hollywood, CA and studied screenwriting. He received an A.S from Mt. Ida College in Newton, MA and a B.A. in English from the University of Rhode Island.
Paul lives in Lincoln, RI with his wife and son

"A chilling work of horror"

Anyone who likes a supernatural thriller similar to the "Left Behind" series will want to read THE APOSTATE. Unlike the "Left Behind" series this novel is more subtle and the supernatural elements more covert. The story line is very entertaining and enriching while the protagonists are people like the neighbors next door, caring and helpful when called upon in need.

Paul Lonardo's first novel is a tightly wound nightmare that unravels in a horrific frenzy. Lonardo understands how to create believable characters and narrowly pull them through some intense scenes. The Apostate possesses the feel of a classic horror novel.

Lonardo writes crisp narrative and full of genuine dialogue. Apparent talent allows Lonardo to pace his story with intensifying suspense and a climax that pulls in all the pieces of the mysterious and evil puzzle.
