The Alexander Cipher: A Thriller
Egyptologist Daniel Knox's lifelong fascination with Alexander the Great and his tomb, a fabled wonder of the ancient world, could be the death of him. After construction workers excavating in Alexandria expose a catacomb dating back to ancient times, Knox eagerly sneaks in to scout the cavernous and dusty site. Among the relics he finds clues that may solve one of the world's greatest mysteries: the last resting place of Alexander the Great.

An unconquerable warrior king, Alexander was the single most powerful man on the planet and thought to be a god. Now, nearly 2,500 years later, the discovery of his tomb, seemingly lost forever, is within reach, triggering a deadly hunt for one of the greatest treasures of all time. Knox is not the only seeker; others are after the prize, and they would kill to win it.

In the spirit of the great adventure-thrillers by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Clive Cussler, Raymond Khoury, and Steve Berry, The Alexander Cipher is a rip-roaring ride through history, archaeology, and the great deserts of Egypt.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"A razor-edged thriller that delves deeply into crumbling tombs and ancient secrets. Explosively paced and tautly told." ---James Rollins, New York Times bestselling author of The Last Oracle

Library Journal

Adams (The Lost Labyrinth) presents his first entry in a planned series featuring Egyptologist Daniel Knox, who here discovers clues leading to the final resting place of Alexander the Great. Unfortunately, rival archaeologists, Egyptian officials, and Macedonian nationalists with their own agendas are also trying to claim this long-lost prize. Adams's characters are flawed, compromised by their inconsistent moral codes—even the hero is a less-than-admirable human being. But the material is ably read by actor/director/multiple Audie Award nominee David Colacci, who produces a wide variety of voices and accents. For listeners who enjoy thrillers, especially those involving Egyptology.—Joanna Burkhardt, Univ. of Rhode Island Libs., Providence

SEPTEMBER 2010 - AudioFile

Adams’s gripping thriller revolves around the search for ancient tombs and relics that provide clues to the location of Alexander the Great's monumental buried treasure. David Colacci lends a world-weary cynicism to the hard-boiled character of Egyptologist Daniel Knox. In addition, Colacci adeptly tackles the other characters’ myriad exotic accents while maintaining a measured pace—perhaps too measured, as a slight pause between the scene changes within each chapter would help the listener shift gears. As Knox seeks one of the greatest treasures of all time, all the while evading greedy tomb robbers, Colacci delivers historical facts about Alexander without letting them bog down the story. As a result, the mystery advances swiftly with all the action, plot twists, and romance a listener could ask for. A.W. © AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine
