Overview

Former Green Beret Colonel Ben Brice drowns memories of Vietnam in oceans of Jim Beam. The war took everything from Ben-his wife, his son, his dreams-and now it threatens to take his ten-year-old granddaughter, Gracie, when she's abducted after a soccer game. Ben can't let that happen. He puts down the bottle and goes in search of Gracie-and discovers dark family secrets and meaning to his life.

APR/MAY 08 - AudioFile

When a girl from a wealthy suburban family is abducted, her loved ones react in very individual ways. Buck Schirner's voices parallel the personalities of Gracie's family members, all of whom have their demons. He lends an introspective persona to her grandfather, who must confront his past in Vietnam. He energetically portrays Gracie's independent mother, who explodes in rages at those around her, a pattern that masks a trauma in her past. And he gives a friendly tone to Gracie’s successful father, who must break free from an unhappy childhood. In their own ways they each love Gracie. Through subtle and effective accents and emotional tones, Schirner captures that love. M.B. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine
