About the Author

Nicholas J. Higgins is a fire lieutenant and district training officer for Piscataway Fire District #2 in Piscataway, NJ. He is a New Jersey State Level 2 Fire Instructor, a National Fallen Firefighters Foundation state advocate and a member of the Board of Directors for the 5-Alarm Task Force Corp. a 501 (c) (3), non-profit organization. Nick is the founder and contributor of The Firehouse Tribune website (www.thefirehousetribune.com), the host of “The 5-Tool Firefighter Podcast” and co-host along side

Chief Tom Marchiano of the “Station Talk Podcast”. Nick has shared his fire service and health and wellness passions across various fire departments throughout the country, FIREHOUSE and other national and state conferences and has been a guest on many fire service podcasts such as “5-Alarm Task Force”, “FIRExTalk”, “The Professional Brotherhood” & “Crew 1st Culture”. Nick is also part of the Africa Fire Mission, training and sharing knowledge of the fire service to various countries in Africa.

Nick is currently a guest speaker at Hillsborough County Community College where he mentors and speaks to students about life after college and how excel in the professional world. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Kean University in Union, NJ, an Associates in Arts–Business from Middlesex County College (now known as Middlesex College) in Edison, NJ and holds certifications as a nutrition coach and battle ropes instructor.
