About the Author

Erkkie Harris-Wells is a trichologist and the founder and director of Miyohara International Trichology Clinic in Costa Mesa, California. One of the most sought-after trichologists in the United States, she diagnoses and treats hair and scalp disorders and has the scientific tools and training to help men and women who are struggling with hair loss.

Mrs. Wells was the first trichologist accepted into the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and is a former Adjunct Member of the ISHRS, the first in the United States. As a consultant, Mrs. Wells helps international companies such as Revlon, Nexus, Joico, Sebastian and Redken target their hair care markets. She does comparative competitor analysis for companies that are branding their products and helps them target multi-ethnic groups of consumers.

Mrs. Wells has over three decades in the hair loss and beauty industry, receiving her education and honors as a graduate of the Institute of Biosthetics (England and France), Santa Monica City College, and Marinello Beauty College. She was a consultant for the London Hairdresser Training Board, the largest governing body that oversees the United Kingdom. She was also the director of Miyohara International in London prior to heading Miyohara in California. In England, she worked on a referral basis with hair replacement clinics and surgeons on Harley Street, which is world-renowned for performing hair transplants. Mrs. Wells performed hair and scalp analysis on all referring patients, treating them before as well as after hair transplant surgery.

When asked about her desires for the future of trichology, Erkkie envisions universities offering a complete medical degree encompassing the full spectrum of trichology. Trichology is a scientific study worthy of the respect of any medical profession, and the standards of this profession should be elevated to an academic study, validating its standing as a scientific endeavor. In no small way, Erkkie's dedication and love for this profession is having an indelible impact on the accomplishment of that dream.
