TERRAFORMA: BELIEF IS IGNORANCE, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
In the wake of a devastating flash flood, two teenagers, Max and Billy, are saved from certain death by a mysterious force. Both experience a bright, white light, where Billy, raised by a pious, single mother, thinks it is the angel god sent to save him, but Max, raised by educated parents, also hears a cryptic voice urging him not to give up. Billy, believing the intervention was divine, interprets the event as an act of angelic rescue and eventually becomes a priest, seeking a sign from God to understand the purpose of his salvation. Max, however, is convinced that an extraterrestrial force is responsible and becomes a scientist in an ever-growing quest for knowledge. For his PhD thesis, he postulates a novel theory to explain Dark Matter, where he claims the Universe is a fishbowl full of Dark Matter and everything floats within. LIGHT cannot travel without Dark Matter, and Einstein's 'spooky action at a distance' is caused by Dark Matter. As a scientist, Max suggested that NASA save the venerable HUBBLE telescope and bring it back to the Smithsonian. After packaging the Hubble in its return container, Max's tether is inexplicably severed, and Max vanishes into the vastness of space. He reappears four months later outside the space station, alive but with no memory of what happened. His mysterious disappearance and reappearance set off several events among conspiracy and religious believers. Russians and Chinese place a 20 million bounty each on Max, believing extraterrestrials abducted him and have information on advanced technology. Someone attempts to kidnap Max, and NASA and the government cannot explain how Max survived in open space for four months. Eventually, the extraterrestrials return Max's memory, setting a day to return with the most important message for the inhabitants of Planet Earth.
