About the Author

Amanda Mayeaux, Monique Wild, and Kathryn Edmonds were the Disney Teach-er Awards “Teacher of the Year” in 2006, the fi st team to earn the top honors in the national competition. In addition, this interdisciplinary team from Dutch-town Middle School in Geismar, Louisiana, received the Outstanding Middle School Teacher Award and the National Youth Service Award from Disney in 2006.

Monique, Amanda, and their colleagues also earned the Teams That Make a Difference Award from National Middle School Association in 2002. Amanda, a National Board Certified Teacher, is the associate principal for grades seven to nine at Donaldsonville High School. She received the National Educator Award from the Milken Family Foundation in 2003. Monique, who earned certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, currently works as a master teacher at Donaldsonville High School in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. Kathryn is an eighth-grade special education teacher and a team member at Dutchtown Middle School.
