TARZAN SERIES 9-16; Edgar Rice Burroughs; (includes Tarzan and the Golden Lion; Tarzan and the Ant Men; Tarzan Twins; Tarzan Lord of the Jungle; Tarzan and the Lost Empire; Tarzan at the Earthââ
This collection of the second eight Tarzan novels is as exciting as the first collection. It’s nothing like the old movies. Tarzan is far more savage and true to the nature of the jungle. Formatted specifically for the NOOK with an interactive table of contents, this volume contains the following unabridged, original novels:
TARZAN AND THE GOLDEN LION
In the previous book, TARZAN THE TERRIBLE, Tarzan rescued Jane after he discovered that she was alive, and was reunited with his son Korak. In this story he and his family encounter and adopt an orphaned lion cub, whom they name Jad-bal-ja ("The Golden Lion" in the language of the lost land of Pal-ul-don, which they have recently left). They then return to their African estate, gutted by the Germans during the course of World War I in TARZAN THE UNTAMED. They find it already being rebuilt by Tarzan's faithful Waziri warriors, including old Muviro, who in later novels is sub-chief of the Waziri. Back at home, Tarzan raises Jad-bal-ja, who in adulthood is a magnificent black-maned golden lion devoted to the Ape Man. Later, Tarzan is drugged, kidnapped and delivered to the priests of Opar, the lost colony of Atlantis that he had last visited in TARZAN AND THE JEWELS OF OPAR. Once again La, the High Priestess of the Flaming God, who is in love with ape-man, rescues him. But when her people discover that she had betrayed them, she flees with Tarzan into the legendary Valley of Diamonds, where savage gorillas rule.
TARZAN AND THE ANT MEN
Tarzan discovers a country called Minuni. Like the name suggests, it is a country full of mini people. They are about one quarter the size of Tarzan. Tarzan makes friends with a group called the Trohanadalmakus, especially their king Adendrohahkis, and the prince, Komodoflorensal. He goes to war with them against a neighboring country called the Veltopismakus. During the battle Tarzan is captured and shrunk down to size.
THE TARZAN TWINS
The Tarzan Twins is a collection of two short stories THE TARZAN TWINS and TARZAN AND THE TARZAN TWINS WITH JAD-BAL-JA THE GOLDEN LION which were written specifically for boys. It’s not as gritty as the rest of the Tarzan books, but still pretty good. Two boys, Dick and Doc, go to Tarzan’s Estate to visit. Dick’s Dad and Tarzan are related. In the first story, Dick and Doc get lost and are captured by cannibals. In the second story, while travelling through the jungle, the Twins get separated from Tarzan. While wondering lost in the jungle, they find a young girl who has been kidnapped by outcasts from Opar. So they try to rescue her.
TARZAN LORD OF THE JUNGLE
Cruel slave traders had invaded the jungle of Tarzan of the Apes. Now they were headed toward a fabled empire of riches which no outsider had ever seen, intent on looting it. Meanwhile, toward the same legendary land stumbles the lost James Blake, an American whom Tarzan had vowed to rescue. Following their spoors, the ape-man discovers the lost Valley of the Sepulcher, where Knights Templar still fights to resume their Holy Crusade to free Jerusalem. Soon Tarzan is armed with lance and shield and mixes into their jousting and ancient combat. It is then that the slavers strike!
TARZAN AND THE LOST EMPIRE
When Dr von Harben finds Tarzan in the jungle, he asks him to find his son, Erich, who was searching for “The Lost Tribe of the Wiramwazi Mountains.” Tarzan and his monkey friend, Nkima set off alone to find him. Along the way, he is captured by the Bagego, a people who trade with the Lost Tribe annually, but are at war with them the rest of the time. They believe the Lost Tribe are the spirits of their dead, and that Tarzan is one of the Lost Tribe and should be killed.
TARZAN AT THE EARTH’S CORE
This is a crossover novel. The Fourteenth Tarzan and the Fourth Pellucidar novel. If you haven’t yet read the first three Pellucidar novels (AT THE EARTH’S CORE, PELLUCIDAR, & TANAR OF PELLUCIDAR by ERG), I suggest you stop where you’re at, go back and read them. It isn’t absolutely necessary, but you would find it to be a rewarding endeavor. Jason Gridley goes to Africa to enlist Tarzan’s aid in the rescue of David Innes who is lost in Pellucidar, the legendary land at the Earth’s Core.
TARZAN THE INVINCIBLE
Tarzan, his monkey friend Nkima, and Chief Muviro and his faithful Waziri warriors prevent Soviet communists from looting the lost city of Opar.
TARZAN TRIUMPHANT
Backed by Chief Muviro and his faithful Waziri warriors, Tarzan faces Soviet agents seeking revenge and a lost tribe descended from early Christians practicing a bizarre and debased religious cult.
