Brief chapters are devoted to describing different recommended reading lists (ALSC, IRA, YALSA) and several of the major book awards, as well as clearly explaining the techniques used both in developing the booktalks contained here and for creating your own. Each of the 75 samples exemplifies one of the techniques and is set up in a convenient template that includes bibliographic information, Web sites, subjects, genre, reference to awards and reading lists, reading level, a short annotation, the booktalk itself, reference to any excerpted material, curriculum connections, and suggestions for similar titles (very useful for the expected run on the book). The seven indexes are carefully cross-referenced by title and author (core and similar), subjects, genres, and curriculum connections, but readers must be aware that the referencing utilizes the entry number, not the page number. Easy on the eyes and briskly written, these "tantalizing tidbits" are brief enough to include, for example, on the morning announcements and include enough support books to fulfill demand.-Mary R.
