Welcome to Shelf 804!
32 Stories 8 Authors All Genres
Something for everyone

• Abandoned at the abbey as a boy, Brother Silas holds a smoldering resentment of his fate.
• Sailors often tell frightening tales of what they find at sea. No one warns you about the ships in the harbor.
• A young man, tired of office-place bullying, is arrested for a murder that he didn't commit -- but not for lack of trying.
• Old buildings come with ghosts, and ghosts come with stories. Ghost stories are Emily's favorite part of her job at Monmouth-Whitman Girls Academy.
• A teen couple sneaks out into the woods at night, only to find they're not alone.
• A man struggles to find peace in a quantum world; where people are entangled; events are in superposition; and the uncertainty principle reigns.

Under the Dewey Decimal System, Shelf 804 currently holds a designation of "not assigned, or no longer used" - naturally, we were only too happy to lay claim to this rare niche of unoccupied library real estate. Step into a literary treasure trove that brings together the creative prowess of eight authors, spanning genre and style, as we populate our very own Shelf 804 with the thirty-two short stories collected in this anthology.
Each writer has engaged uniquely with four original prompts to inspire their writing. The result is an anthology as diverse as our imaginations. Join us on a journey that will transport you from a dueling piano bar in Denver, Colorado to the deck of a sailing ship worthy of Edgar Allan Poe; from the startling and unexpected world of 'the innerverse' to the gleaming, strangely quiet corridors of a lab colony on the moon.
We are excited for you to discover the hidden gems of Shelf 804.

About the Author

M.J. Cote
Mike is an adjunct Professor at Northeastern University, where he received his Doctorate in Law and Policy. He holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Nichols College. He has written articles on leadership and is now an aspiring science fiction and fantasy writer—the culmination of a “wishening” he made as a teenager.

Melody Friedenthal
Librarian. Chocolate lover. Pythonista. Science fiction reader and leader. Editor of MetaStellar, an online magazine of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Melody’s stories have been published in Eldritch Science, MetaStellar’s Year One anthology, Bardsy’s Love is Blind anthology. She also runs a copyediting business, Writing Review.

Marie LeClaire
Marie started writing a novel in 2011 just for fun. It turned out to be more fun than she expected, so she wrote four more. Her short stories have appeared in three anthologies and on her own website, MLeCLaire.com. She edits for a popular speculative fiction magazine, MetaStellar.com, as well as being a contributor of short stories and reviews. You can find her books on Amazon, Barns and Noble, and Kobo.

Amira Loutfi
Amira is on a mission to craft excellent fantasy fiction inspired by late antiquity Arabia and Bedouin culture. Her stories often feature powerful warriors, eccentric mages, desert politics, and duties to family in a harrowing environment. You can learn more about this project if you join her newsletter (www.amiraloutfi.com).

Shayla McBride
Shayla McBride once thought she was a romance writer but she kept killing off the hero or heroine. Now she's happy killing off any one she fancies as a suspense and thriller writer. She is also an award-winning non-fiction author (Writing Your First Fiction: A Beginner's Guide to Genre Writing).

C. Brian Moorhead
Brian first honed his craft in the scholarly halls of western Massachusetts, and occasionally they allow him back in. He primarily plies his trade in Worcester County, and hasn't quit his day job.

Dana Norton
In a past career life Dana wrote feature stories for a variety of news outlets, winning an award from the New England Press Association. She dealt in facts, but soon discovered she preferred the wide-open spaces of fiction – specifically mystery.

Lucy A.J. Tew
Lucy is a writer, director, performer, and professional cat herder (teacher of middle schoolers). She currently has three English degrees, and a job as a theater teacher and director.
