Overview

Too often our children get caught up in the hustle and bustle that surrounds the Advent season and miss what it means to really prepare our hearts and minds to welcome the Christ child. This year help your child to 'Stop, look, and listen" by reading how the characters in the Christmas story stopped what they were doing and looked and listened to the messages from God. Contemporary text along with the traditional Christmas story help children connect what is being done at home and at church to what happened so long ago when God gave us the first and best Christmas gift.

CHAPTER 1

There's something different in the air!

What can it be?

Stop! Look around, what do you see?

It happens every year.

Stop! Listen, what do you hear?

Look. there's a beautiful wreath with four candles. It tells us that Jesus is the Light of the World.

Listen, the choir is singing a new song. "Good news!" they sing. "Let's get ready!"

A long time ago in Nazareth, a young woman was planning her wedding. She would soon he married to Joseph, the village carpenter. Suddenly, she stopped her work and looked up. Right in the room she saw an angel! "Listen, Mary," she heard him say. "I have good news! You will have a baby boy, and he will bring peace to all the earth."

Look, there is a beautiful tree. The ornaments tell us about Jesus.

Listen, we are all singing a new song. We ask Jesus to shine in our hearts.

A messenger came to Nazareth from Rome. All the people stopped to listen to him. He told them they would have to travel to their hometowns to register for their taxes. Joseph was from Bethlehem, so he and Mary started on the long trip. "Look, Mary," Joseph said, "you can ride on our gentle donkey."

Look. there is an empty manger by' the altar. On Christmas Eve we will place the baby Jesus in it.

Listen, the children are putting on a play. It tells the story of our Savior's birth. "Good news!" they say.

At last the long trip came to an end. Joseph looked for a place where he and Mary could spend the night. They stopped at inn after inn. but all the rooms were full. Finally, a kind innkeeper said, "You may sleep in my stable with the animals. It will be warm and cozy there."

That very night Jesus was born. Mary wrapped him in soft cloths. Joseph made a bed for him in a manger. The animals gathered around and looked at the tiny baby. They listened as Mary sang a soft lullaby.

¡Hay algo diferente en el aire!

Se celebra cada año.

¿Qué puede ser?

¡Mira alrededor! ¿Qué puedes ver?

¡Detente y escucha! ¿Qué puedes oír?

¡Mira!
