Description: This book brings the Synergy Model to the realm of critical care nursing, describing and illustrating its implementation in critical care settings. This publication represents more than a decade of labor by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) to develop a conceptual framework for certified practice in critical care.
Purpose: The purpose is two-fold: to provide a historical background for implementing the Synergy Model as the conceptual framework for certified practice in critical care and to provide the foundation for applying the theoretical concepts to patient situations. These objectives are met through well-organized chapters and practice patient care questions.
Audience: The book describes in detail the components of the Synergy Model and is directed at practicing critical care experts, including: staff RNs, CCRNs, acute care clinical nurse specialists, and acute care nurse practitioners seeking a conceptual framework for ICU practice and desiring certification in this area. It is appropriate as well for use in schools of nursing for developing acute care/critical care curricula and for courses focused on nursing theories and conceptual frameworks.
