CHAPTER 1

Once, there was a magical island called Dog Fish Island. It was in the middle of the ocean surrounded by other small islands.

Lori and Katie lived on Dog Fish with their brother, Teddy.

Lori had wire pots that looked liked cages. She lowered them on a long rope onto the ocean's floor. They stayed there overnight, and if Lori was lucky, a lobster or two would crawl inside and become trapped.

After the lobsters were caught, Lori removed them to a larger cage called a "holding tank," which she kept on another long rope underneath the dock at Dog Fish.

Once each week, Lori, Katie and Teddy went to Stony Creek to sell their lobsters to the fish store.

One bright, summer day, they were out in their boat, which was called The Little Duck. Lori pulled up a lobster pot, and inside was a beautiful starfish.
