Swing, Brother, Swing
Lord Pastern fired his revolver. The figure in the spotlight fell and the coup-de-theatre had become murder. Could Inspector Alleyn believe Pastern had let hatred of his future son-in-law go too far? Or would the tangle of jealousies and blackmail among the guests reveal another murderer?

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal Audio

New Zealand crime writer Marsh (1895–1982) is widely revered as one of the four grand dames of British mystery—along with Dorothy L. Sayers, Agatha Christie, and Margery Allingham—and her Inspector Roderick Alleyn character is also favorably regarded. As with her previous novels, this Alleyn title, first published in the United States in 1949 as A Wreath for Rivera and newly available on CD, features a quirky mix of upper-crust and lower-crust characters, with detailed examinations of motive and opportunity. The late actor James Saxon (d. 2003) is the perfect reader for Marsh, handling the diversity of voices—in class, nationality, and gender—with ease. Highly recommended for all mystery fans. [Unabridged recordings of two other entries in this 32-title series, Enter a Murderer (1935) and False Scent (1960), are also available from AudioGO; an alternate recording of Swing, Brother, Swing, titled A Wreath for Rivera and read by Nadia May, is available from Blackstone Audio.—Ed.]—Kristen L.
